Anne
ANNE, the first play based on the original writings of Anne Frank, premiered in May 2014 in Theater Amsterdam. Imagine Nation produced the show in collaboration with the Anne Frank Fonds (founded by Anne’s father Otto Frank in 1963 and based in Basel, Switzerland) and Het Nationale Theater (the Dutch national theatre). The creative team, headed by creative producer Robin de Levita, also consisted of Theu Boermans (director), Jessica Durlacher and Leon de Winter (writers) and Paul van Brugge (composer). ANNE opened to rave international reviews and became the longest running play in the history of the Netherlands.
The play uses Anne Frank’s writing and converted her diary letters into dialogues and monologues with the aim to hear her world through her own words. The Anne Frank house was represented by an exact life-size copy, so the audience saw her life through her eyes as much as possible.
ANNE was created at the initiative of and in cooperation with the Anne Frank Fonds. This foundation is the sole heir of the Frank family and any income yielded by the Frank estate is redirected to fund educational and charitable purposes worldwide. ANNE is the first ever theatrical performance based on all the versions of Anne Frank’s diaries, including the uncensored ones, edited by herself.
